WHAT ARE LUMINOUS FLUX AND LUMENS?

Luminous flux is the amount of energy that creates a sense of light radiating from a source or the amount of light emitted in all directions. In other words, it is the visible amount of light emitted from a light source.

Lumen is a unit used to measure light flow. The more lumens a light source has, the brighter it is.

HOW MUCH LIGHT IS NEEDED FOR EACH ROOM IN YOUR HOME?

  • Hallways: 300 Lm/m²
  • Kitchens: 300 to 400 Lm/m²
  • Kitchens - Workspaces: 700-800 Lm/m²
  • Bathrooms: 500 to 600 Lm/m²
  • Bathroom - Mirror: 700-800 Lm/m²
  • Kitchens: between 400 and 500 Lm/m²
  • Reading area: 400 Lm/m²
  • Bedroom: 300 to 400 Lm/m²

These are the optimal measurements, but it all depends on how the rooms are used. Request a free evaluation at info@sulion.es

WHAT ARE LIGHT INTENSITY AND CANDELAS?

Light intensity is the luminous flux emitted from a single a solid angle in a specific direction, and candelas are the unit this is measured in.

WHAT IS LUMINANCE OR CD/M2?

Is the amount of luminous flux reflecting off a surface or object that can be picked up by the human eye. So luminance is the light that we see.

WHAT ARE ILLUMINANCE AND LUXES?

Illuminance is the luminous flux received by a given area, and lux is the unit this is measured in.

  • Hallways: 150 lux
  • Kitchens: 300 to 500 lux
  • Bathroom: 200 to 600 lux
  • Living rooms: between 100 and 500 lux
  • Reading area: 750 lux
  • Bedroom: 300 to 600 lux

These are the optimal measurements, but it all depends on how the rooms are used. For example, in bathrooms the amount of light needed in general is not the same as what is needed around the mirror.

WHY IS THE OPENING ANGLE IMPORTANT?

This angle tells us how wide a lamp’s beam will be and consequently the size of the illuminated area. This fact must be taken into account when selecting lighting so the room is lit adequately and uniformly.

WHAT IS COLOR TEMPERATURE?

Color temperature is usually measured in degrees kelvin, it is a reference for indicating the color of light sources.

  • Warm colors are between 2600 and 3500 degrees.
  • Neutral colors are between 4000 and 5000 degrees.
  • Cold colors are more than 5000K.

WHAT IS CRI?

It is the color rendering index. It measures the quality of color reproduction. Its value is between 1 and 100, the higher a value the better the colors are reproduced. The sun in the light of the day is at 100 on the CRI.

Since LED lighting is at 80 or more on the CRI, it reproduces colors accurately.

WHAT IS THE IP CODE?

It tells us a light fixture’s level of protection against dust and humidity. It consists of two digits. The first indicates the level of protection against solid objects and the second the level of protection against water.

WHAT IS A LED?

An LED is a light-emitting diode, made from a semiconductor that produces light when a small electric current is applied to it. The light emitted by this device has a given color and produces no heat. Unlike conventional lights, LEDs do not heat up.

The color of this device depends on the materials that were used in the manufacturing process.

An LED light is sometimes called a solid-state light source.

They do not have gas, filaments or other such elements subject to wear and tear, thus their potential lifespan is much longer than that of other light sources.

WHAT WE HAVE ACHIEVED WITH LED TECHNOLOGY?

With lower watt consumption we can achieve greater and better luminosity than any other type of light bulb.

We must try to respect the angle of light emission, in order to achieve the same effect as the light bulb being substituted. Light bulbs with a high aperture diffuse more light than ones with less aperture diffuse less light. By concentrating the beam of light onto one point, the latter are usually more in focus.

The color of the light (temperature) also needs to be taken into account. A warm light creates a more pleasant and comfortable environment. It is the tone of incandescent light bulbs, used in homes, hotels, businesses, etc. On the contrary, cold or white light creates very high-quality and more diffuse light. Ideal for offices where a greater sensation of light is required.

WHAT ARE THE ADVANTAGES OF LEDs?

  • A lifetime of up to 50,000 hours.
  • Low maintenance because of its longevity.
  • Does not flicker when turned on.
  • Immediate power.
  • An investment in change with fast results.
  • They do not produce noise.
  • They resist vibration, knocks and jolts making them better at supporting transport and storage than traditional light bulbs and light fixtures.
  • They have a two-year warranty as they are considered an electrical product.
  • Their light is directional.
  • Optimal performance at low temperatures.
  • They do not emit heat.
  • They are very versatile because you can choose different levels of brightness and tone. We use them to light and decorate.
  • The CRI (Color Rendering Index) is greater than or equal to 80.

WHAT ARE THE KEY REASONS TO BUY AN LED?

  • The quality of the light source.
  • The color rendering.
  • The color temperature.
  • The heat dissipation.
  • The Lumens / watts.
  • They protect the environment.
  • They do not contain pollutants.
  • They do not emit UV rays.
  • They do not contain mercury.

IF I WANT TO SUBSTITUTE MY LIGHT BULBS FOR LEDS, WHICH LED BULB DO I BUY?

We always buy bulbs according to watts because proportional to the quantity of light that they emit. However, what really measures the quantity of light is luminous flux, represented by lumens.

This is the most objective way to measure one type of light bulb against another and make a fair comparison.
